So let's assume we could drop something off in our orbit, spinning quickly and we surround it with mirrors, would that create any sort of energy or would the mass of the spinning object prevent it from creating any sort of usable energy?

There's a reason the mirror won't work, and neither any kind dyson sphere for that matter. It's actually impossible! I'm an engineer. Let me explain. If the dyson sphere stood still it would be an unstable configuration and fall into the black hole on the side where it was closest to the black hole. You can't change the position of the black hole since it's so much larger, so you will need to constantly move the dyson sphere in order to keep it from falling into the black hole on one side. The amount of energy required to push the dyson sphere away from the black hole is ludicrous and probably more than you will receive from the power generation. If you want the dyson sphere somewhat stable and keep it from falling into the black hole, you can try to make the dyson sphere spin with an rotational velocity high enough to make it orbit the black hole. Once it's in orbit, you won't need to constantly keep it up. However, if you want keep the dyson sphere close to the black hole, then it will be so close that the orbital velocity becomes close to the speed of light, so you will need an ludicrous amount of energy to spin it that fast in the first place. Even worse, the dyson sphere would still be unstable at its poles since the parts one poles aren't spinning around a legal orbit. This means that they would have a natural tendency to fall into the black hole. To keep the poles from falling down, you will need to keep them upright by structurally supporting them by letting the orbital equator of the dyson sphere take the load "sideways"; like a bridge, only around and over the pole. However, this bridge will need to be strong enough to support 16 million tons of downwards pull on each square centimeter (given that you orbit close to a small black hole). There is no material which is strong enough to support it! So, every part of the dyson sphere which is not perfectly aligned with the equator will be spagettified and fall down into the black hole. The only way to combat this spaghettification is to build a large dyson sphere reaching far away outside of the black hole. However, the net pull on the entire structure would still be the same, so it would still require a ludicrous amount of structural material to support it - as well as already being big in the first place. In that case you will need even more material, and even more energy to spin it, and so on. Furthermore, when the sphere becomes this big, it will lose its purpose! When a light photon hits a mirror, some of its energy gets absorbed, say 5% or so. If the dyson sphere becomes big enough, I believe the black hole in the center will be so small compared to the total volume that almost no light rays will hit the black hole - making the whole power plant lose more energy than it gains due to more frequent mirror absorption events than black hole boost events. In conclusion, not possible unless we discover some kind of sci-fi exotic strong material to withstand spaghettification or a perfect mirror which absorbes 0% light when reflecting.

I love how scientists have found ways we can survive past the duration of every star in our universe by harnessing black holes despite us probably never going to make anywhere near that far, especially if we can't get our heads out of our asses long enough to ensure our home planet doesn't become a hostile environment where either it is inordinately difficult to survive or we are unable to survive as a species, I do not feel we are anywhere near being a species that is not completely dependent on our home planet for basic necessities like water, breathable oxygen, and reliable food source...

I've wondered. When they Mayans invented zero, were they referring to the space within the zero. I asked my friend that and he said ,"Yes. So doesn't that make the zero (0) another version of infinity?" Also, I've wondered, "what would happen if you put a hollow sphere around a black hole?" (Edit) Another thing I wondered even before watching this video was that, "What if you rotated an object that wouldn't break, rotating increasingly faster. Wouldn't it become so fast that it would create a black hole?' (Edit number two) The hollow sphere around the black hole idea made me wonder soon after, "Could we live inside the non hollow part of the sphere, unless the black hole just destroys the sphere entirely (or maybe something else)?"

As humans advance in technology, we advance faster. If you create a computer, you now have the tools to progress faster. This means that something like a black hole bomb is more so possible before the end of this of this millennium. If an astronaut can travel far enough to a place in our galaxy where time moves slower than here, if they have the right resources, they would be affected by something like time travel. Like in interstellar, by the time that astronaut comes back, there is a whole new world.

ok your are 100% wrong, space. and time can not be warped and stuff. ok.or traped or stoped or anythign, a black hole needs space to exist plates need space, we need space, we need time black holes need time, everything needs time inorder to move move ment and objects and sideffects of space and time, now the Perseption of time and space or seeing objects move, and and objects existing and just too put a nail in a coffin, if to humans with same hart rythoms beat 1 beat per second, butg one person is light speed for 50 years. they both be 50 years old , nothing would change, so get that dumb idea that moveing fatster,= time travel , it dose not. you dont go slower the faster you move. or w/e. honestly. you all will fail at evolveing if you keep thinking like that

That halo world with a blackhole in the center seems gravitationally off. Maybe the cities ought to be on the outer rim of the halo so that gravity would pull down. We can then adjust the rotational speed of the halo to trim the blackhole gravity to 1G. Another benefit is that the energy collecting infrastructure would be on the inner rim of the halo, leaving more room on the outer rim. The downside would be that there is no sunshine on the outer rim, all lighting would be artificial.
