Amazing to suddenly come across this video to see myself as a spectator at the Dutch National Championships .The Dutch track was at Mathieu's home area. The track is very familiar to Mathieu . He took that hill sprint arrival many times before as that hill is also part of the cyclo cross in Hoogerheide every year (the village where Mathieu's father was born) . The finish is quite steep for a dutch road allthough that road at the finish is not that old) . I think that those factors also helped a bit as Mathieu knows every inch of that track and the other riders might have had problems with putting the right balanced effort into that sprint since the finishline is just after a uphill bend . But still I couldn't believe my eyes that Mathieu delivered such a powerful sprint as he had all ready been in a small breakaway group for quite a long distance just before that sprint during that same race.

I've only just started following your race analysis and I think they're pretty damn good! You're in the wrong part of the world for your trade mate, you should be up here in Europe doing some serious English commentary on cycling (besides the Belgiums the overall commentary level is pretty dismal). One thing though.., you should work on the pronunciation of the names! (Van der Poel = the th in Mathieu is pronounced like a T and Poel is pronounce like (swimming)POOL). Hardly any of the English commentary put in the effort and I never understand why! I'm sure you can do better. Best of luck with the coming season.(BTW check out the cross-cycling this winter, interesting development with some road cyclist doing their winter training in the mud. I'm sure they've noticed MvdP ;-))

Sprinting for 10+ seconds might be really cool in some cases, but remember that you can easily lose some wins, if you keep sprinting this way. Just look at Alexander Kristoff, who does it as well, but many sprinters robbed him for wins just because he started sprinting too early and others just have more power for shorter sprints or can time it absolutely perfect. Plus, Mathieu Van Der Poel still can't beat such a powerful sprinters like Dylan Groenewegen, because he's not only a sprinter like him and doesn't have problems, when there's a little climb on the route.

A new young generation is standing up with all their own specialities. Mathieu van der Poel a powerful long sprinter. Wout van Aert a rider always at the front. Remco Evenepoel a young rider with already great wins. Egan Bernal a fantastic climber and Tadey Pogacar the Slovenia talent. The excitement in the next years of the cycling sport is guaranteed. With these technical analyses it gives more information how powerful some riders are. Curious of one of these riders will be the next World champion. I hope it will be Mathieu cause he plays with all the cycling rules and has an exploding finish sprint.

*_Uphill sprint more than 30 seconds!_* Check link below. Thank you so much for that overhead shot of the Dutch Champs sprint!!! I have been searching for it and couldn't find it. How he "gently" pushes the other rider is just unbelievable! That was about the first time we saw his power on the road. And he had been very active that day so used a lot of energy. I have been watching almost every MvdP race since I can remember. Also the cyclocross and MTB. Have you also seen all his MTB races this year? In most cases MvdP destroys the only competition in the last lap. In Nove Mest Czech Rep. he sprinted away uphill for more then 30 seconds! You see him sprint for 15 seconds and then the camera loses him for some seconds and MvdP returns still sprinting. I wonder if he sat down when he was off camera. What do you think? I think it's almost easier to keep sprinting out of the saddle instead of having to get out of the saddle again for 10 seconds. Check out the link below to that full race. Just magic! Just after 1h38mins MvdP sprints uphill for more than 30 seconds with a 12.7kg bike. And he has an immediate gap of around 15 seconds! Enjoy! Maybe better to start watching a lap earlier at around 1h30mins. www.redbull.com/int-en/events/uci-mtb-world-cup-nove-mesto-live-stream/live/AP-1XH4Y6XW91W11

Lanterne Rouge

This is mostly a cut of highlights though. It is harder to do videos on climbers because if a climber has dropped a group then the highlights may not really show it, whereas for sprinters the highlights will always show the decisive move in the finale

Dumoulin + Jumbo Visma favorites for TdF 2020? 3. With Dumoulin switching to Jumbo Visma, seems to me they have an insanely talent packed team and are the only team to have as much, if not more potential than team Ineos, even if only on paper. What are your thoughts on that and how do you think they will deal with having 3 GC men (Dumoulin, Kruiswijk and Roglic). With support from the likes of Kruiswijk, Bennet, Van Aert, Laurens de plus, and TT specialists jos van emden and tony martin along with Van Aert again, and Dumoulin himself, I see Dumoulin as the favorite to win the tour next year. And then may be Roglic has a stab at the Giro again himself or do you think he will want to leave the team??
jurian jongbloed
Jaar geleden
MVP vs Bernal/Van Aert/Evenepoel etc.... 2. It seems to me there is a new generation of young talent coming up that is going to dominate in a few years to come with Bernal (22 years old), MVP (24), van aert (24)and Evenepoel (19). Do think that is right? Do you think I am missing anyone? And which of them do you think has the most potential to dominate the GCs of the grand tours?
RoB Boaron
Jaar geleden
Probably Bernal en Evenepoel for GC in grand tours. I'd add Pogacar as well. Van der Poel and Van Aert for stage wins, green jerseys and the big monuments.

Given I've now found this channel, I have a couple of questions that I'd love to hear your thoughts on if you want to comment or even make a video. Also curious to hear other's thoughts. Will post each one separately to keep the threads on each topic separate.... MVP to win GC at TdF?? 1. given MVPs performance, age and potential, do you think MVP is a shoe-in for a grand tour GC win (or several), or do you think his weight and style might not be best suited for a long 3 week tour with extended periods in the high alps above 2000m in the TdF for instance. Perhaps similar to alaphilippe's short comings in this years tour (though some might argue it was also due to lack of team support)?

I think he would be on the right side if he was first or second wheel, but not that deep. Because he is so deep and wants to begin sprinting so early, he risks having the door shut on him mid sprint (similar to what happened).

Unfortunately a few of my friends and I use that term lightly we’re going around talking about doping again here’s the thing from what I’ve seen you post 5.8 w/kg is not a ridiculous number During the heyday of EPO 6.7 W/kg was a magic number I think.
