Red Bull Reveal Their Plan If They Don't Keep Albon

Red Bull’s current driver Alex Albon’s position in the team has been called into question by many during this season. While initially, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, the team’s principal and advisor respectively, had affirmed their faith in Albon, they had recently confirmed that they are open to looking at other drivers, even the ones that are outside the Red Bull Program. Christian Horner has now once again reiterated this viewpoint while also revealing what Albon needs to do

I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World:
Albon Has To Claim Red Bull Seat
Horner started off by stating that they want Albon to justify his place in the team
“We want Alex to claim that seat and basically justify that there is no need to look at any other alternative than Alex. I think everybody in the team wants to see him do that”
He further elaborated on the timeframe that Albon has in front of him to do so
“He's had a couple of difficult weekends. So, he needs to bounce back here [Portimao] I think, and particularly Imola, with a strong, strong weekend from start to finish”
“So that's our focus. That's our objective. As I say, he's a popular member of the team. But we need two cars closer together in order to fight the Mercedes, and that's what we've got to do. That's our target”
He then explained why they will look outside their program if they had to replace Albon
“If we had to look at a different solution, then obviously we would have to look outside of the Red Bull pool of drivers, simply because there’s not one available that we would look to put in. There’s some quality drivers, obviously, on the market that could be unemployed for next year”
Albon, meanwhile, gave his thoughts on this development
“I am confident in my own abilities. Their [Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg] names don't really mean anything to me. I'm just focused on my job and working with the team to get the best results I can”
He further elaborated on this to sum up the situation
“As a driver, you approach each weekend the same. There's no real difference to it and for me I've just got to do my job. Focus on my performance, there's not too much to comment about it”

Fast Feed
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton has admitted that they’ve “got a great car but you have to drive the nuts off of it to pull out a lap”
Christian Horner has stated that the more they “look, there really only is one option that works and that would be to agree something with Honda where” Red Bull “could take on the [intellectual property] for the Honda engine”
He also added that “it’s absolutely fundamental that there has to be an engine freeze with these power units until the introduction of the new engines” for them to go down this route
He also divulged that “Renault don’t really want to supply” them because “their aspirations as a team obviously have changed”
The FIA has explained that they appoint “stewards with relevant Formula 1 experience and expertise to carry out this function at the highest level”
They also added that they do “not discriminate in this process on the basis of views expressed outside their function as FIA stewards”
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff pointed out that Williams’ George Russell “is a star of the future who remains unbeaten by his team mates in Formula 1”
He, however, accepts that “there’s obviously a financial reality that” he “cannot judge at all and it’s absolutely the judgement of the new owners and Simon to decide what they want to do going forward”

Will George Russell lose his Williams seat for 2021?

Great one. If Horner had the backbone to stand up to Max and not drive out Dan Ricardo, none of these problems would exist. Instead, DR had to leave to preserve his sanity, help Renault have multiple podium finishes this year and give the Red Bull hierarchy the middle finger for the rubbish he had to put up with at RB. In the process, CH gave Mercedes a free run at more constructors championships and a bad 2nd driver to hinder the team at least challenge LH with more number one podium finishes. Explain that Ducky!

I’m sad for Albon because I feel he has it in him but he has clawed his way up. I feel if he was given the proper encouragement as a racer in his own right he could be one of the best. I respect where he has came from and think he deserves a spot in F1.

I don't think anyone can say Lewis is not a super super super human driver and is not one of the best ever. Mercedes can have their rewards. Yes they have won. Convincingly. For the sake of the "team sport" their advantage in the engine department has to be rained in. For everyone's sake. Wouldn't it be nice for all the fans if once every five years they nullified the engine disparity and plonked in an identical engine in every car. Just for one season. A drivers season. That would be so awesome. How ever you want to do it. A true drivers championship so we can see them compete really close and nut out who is the best. I would really appreciate that. It would be awesome. The fans are F1's biggest asset. Imagine the interest that would be generated. Mercedes can win next year and hold onto their most successful team ever status for ever infinitum. I could not care less. Let's just not do this again. Damn it has been numbing. Frustrating to the max. What true F1 fan wants to see one team walk away with it for a decade? A greedy one? An extremely self centred one perhaps? Last race after the safety car restart the Merc's were gone immediately. Bye! See ya! By the end of the straight the disparity was ridiculous. It's not the engine? What a complete joke FIA!

I really like Albon in the Red Bull, but he needs to be fighting for 4th and 5th every race, consistently. If he gets the ax, I'd love to see Red Bull take a chance on George Russell, even though he's in the Mercedes program. I'm not sure how likely that would be. Maybe they will bring in Hulkenberg, which I'd really like to see. Perez is pretty good too and can really manage his tires, but personally I'd rather see Russell or the Hulk in there if they let Albon go.

I feel for Alex Albon. As I said before I think Red bull has a team so tightly wrapped around Max Verstappen that it would be hard for any newer driver to come to terms with the car and the team. I hope Alex can claim that seat at Red Bull. With that being said, if they are to replace Albon they should look at doing it with... George Russell. Now hold on don't laugh. Think about it for a sec. This has happened in the past of course with David Coulthard.(Williams/ Mclaren). It would give George Russell some seat time in a very competitive car. It would help Red bull perhaps close down the points deficit with Mercedes. And Mercedes in turn will get a driver that is seasoned in a top ride. I'm looking ahead to your next video, and it has Wolff quoting, ,"we should do everything to help them." Loaning George Russell to Red bull would be that,"everything".

Sounds like George or Bottas talk to me. And considering Alex was lapped by Max who got a podium, he's done at Red Bull for next season. He wasn't ready just like Pierre. Everyone thinks it will be Nico...Honestly? It's going to be Russell or Bottas if Williams replaces him with Perez. And George/Valtteri could absolutely push Max as much as Perez or anyone available on the driver's market, Nico included. That would be an amazing lineup for RB. No way George gets parked for a season with what he's doing in the Williams. If Pierre keeps it up this season, I see him going to Renault into Ocon's seat. Mick to Haas. Albon/Tsunoda at AlphaTauri. Perez/Latifi at Williams. George is the only guy available who can put the the Red Bull in the first two rows week in and out like Max. I think the only reason a George move hasn't happened yet is Lewis is yet to re-sign beyond this reason. I can't be the only one starting to see cracks between Bottas & Mercedes. I'm equally excited about the idea of having Lewis teamed up with George. Either way it will be interesting next few seasons.

Out of all the RB drivers Albon has been given the most chances by far. Kvyat was demoted because he had a stinker in Russia (they obviously just wanted Max in that seat and refused to wait). Gasly was demoted after being a dreadful number 2 driver. We knew he had a lot of talent from his performance the season before but something was clearly wrong with him when he got to RB. Albon is having the same issue as Gasly but thw difference is that RB is actually going to let him wait out the full season because they've learned from their mistakes. Even though Albon isn't showing signs of improvement at the moment. The only unjustified demotion was the Kvyat one, and I think that left a bad taste in all of the RB drivers which tended to be overlooked because of how great Max was when he got the drive. 5 years later that demotion has problem done more harm than good for the long term.

Nico hulk should take that sear at RBR, he's proven himself Time and time again. Albon needs to go unfortunately, couldn't even pass a slow Alfa Romeo but credit due to kimi and his skill to stay in front and also Alex couldn't pass vettel which we all know is a much slower car than the Red bull. Perez fell to the bottom of the grid yet worked his way back up, I feel like albon is at the lower end of the midfield drivers but the small advantage he has over the rest on some weekends is due to the car which has more potential than he is able to extract. I don't think gasly would be any better in the car as yes he may be great in the Alpha Tauri but he's still not close enough to Max, either en experienced head like hulk or Perez who can kind of be like a bottas x2 and help max and the team get as many points as they both are very quick drivers.

I can guarantee that he would not be intimidated by Verstappen, as he is called the Iceman for a reason. He doesn't give a crap about anything, and at this stage of his career, he feels absolutely no pressure. He can be an experienced, steady hand behind the wheel. He can provide tons of feedback based on his prior experience at top teams. I also think there is no way he does worse than Albon.

The kid tried. He got the opportunity to jump to a top team in his rookie season and took the chance. He showed huge promise but this year struggled to live up to potential. To see him not have a seat in F1 in 21 would be sad RB must protect his career and give him the chance to develop with AlphaTauri. Offer gladly the seat and work on the car and. Give him time to adapt. Kvyat will have to be sacrificed for Tsunoda.

Albion is probably the most annoying driver in the field, he is always sulking and doesn’t appear in control, even if the car is hard to drive, the last thing anyone with half a brain would do is tell their competitors. And a tenth or two too Max would be acceptable, I seem to recall instances of 8 tenths, in F1 that is a huge difference, the difference between an amateur and a pro is often less than that. If he hasn’t worked out by now he never will. Kudo’s to RBR for sticking with him this long. Would rather see a young F3 or F2 driver get the seat, like they did with Max and Ricardo. Or give Gasly another shot for at least a few races. Mercedes and Renault should be eager at the opportunity to power the red bull, that is probably the strongest car in the field except for the current engine, with Max anyway. If they were smart someone would buy the team for their own engines

George Russell I hope. But I’d like Albion to stay and Russell to Mercedes but we know they won’t do that until Hamilton has re-ordained 8 championships... Then Mercedes will leave.

RB has giving him a lot more time and patience compared to Gasly, they have also given him a new race engineer. They are a top team and need points and their driver is seriously underperforming. People are complaining about Bottas and why he is still a part of merc but compared to Albon Bottas is performing almost perfectly. I´m no fan of RB nor Max, but I understand they need a driver who is scoring the points they need and Albon could not perform they way he should have.

They should look at Kimi or hulkenberg for next season as Albon is so bad.
