Aren't the two fans in the last ( aio and exhaust) gonna create a void in between which is actually hampering the cooling? They both are trying to move the air out from the same area

*Dawid, use Noctua fans for GPU and make another video?* I replaced my EVGA GTX1080 FTW3 fans with "Noctua NF-A9 PWM chromax" (black) fans (and the 4-pin adapter for smaller fan header, and zip-ties)... the noise was greatly reduced and this especially helped in Linux where fan control was difficult... I had two issues, both of which I resolved: #1) weird noise even in light fan spinning (I moved the fan connection for the fan NOT sitting over the GPU processor to a motherboard fan header and the noise went away. So some issue with fan power delivery I guess as the Noctua's were more demanding.. not a noise issue as I set the fan RPM to range from 20% up to a max of 40% based on CPU temp which seems sufficient to cool the VRAM etc... some cards allow EXTERNAL GPU's to be plugged in, and some SOFTWARE allows the GPU temp to control motherboard fans as well) #2) EVGA Precision software crashed ( this was because I'd removed the GPU shroud with the LED's in it... this confused the software, so I simply removed EVGA Precision X1 then reinstalled it and it works) My entire system with R9-3900x + Noctua NH-D15 + GTX1080 + two front Noctua case fans is almost silent. When gaming the front fans rarely go past 400RPM. The GPU fans are never audible except a GPU stress test and the CPU with all 24 threads loaded is only noticeable above roughly 80% load (depending on room temperature as well)... I used Asus DIP5 software to analyze my CPU voltage/overclock and to test custom fan profiles which are tweaked around noise. *I tuned the GPU fan profile (which only controls one fan now) to stay super low then only ramp up heavily close to 80degC. I know you can gain a SMALL PERFORMANCE benefit to keeping temperatures low but I'll take low noise over a 4% FPS gain. I have my CPU fans set to ramp up at 76degC as that is optimal in my setup (it's a bit weird because I can get quick spikes so it's a bit of an art form to balance that but in the end I found keeping CPU fans at 30% until 65degC then ramping up to 50% max RPM at 76degC then jumping to 80% was ideal for me. Never had this issue with my Intel i7-3770K but it appears that due to the CHIPLET approach you can get hot-spots over 70degC even with only 10% CPU usage. Such as hot spot on the I/O die? **To be clear, I did a lot of EXPERIMENTATION and concluded that case fans had rapidly diminishing benefit to going above 500RPM for my setup. The general opinion for cooling is to concentrate on cooling closest to the heat source. When I set all my fans to a CONSTANT RPM then set a GPU stress test, increasing the front intake fans to 2x their RPM made the system much louder but only made a 2degC difference in temp... but changing out the GPU fans made a massive difference in how quiet I could get things.

Dude my 3080 never goes above like 72° even when playing really demanding games with 99% usage and core clock stays around 1900mhz to 2000mhz. I guess it really does matter which specific version of a card you buy. I have a much less powerful CPU though mind you so that probably contributes and I'm confident my case has better cooling.

My concern since you didn't buy a case with intake fans, is not getting good cfm fans with good static pressure to pull through the case grill. Setting the fan's on dc mode in the bios could regulate fan speed based on voltage increase so you don't limit the cfm using a limiter. Your case isn't designed for air cooling, it's an afterthought from aio. Getting a cooler master h500m with air cooling cpu, you wouldn't have a gpu cooling issue

I'm sitting here and trying to visualize the airflow patterns and I keep ending up with pretty awful airflow over the GPU area. After the rebuild you have three fans exhausting air out top and top back and two fans blowing air into the case from the front. Granted that's three 120mm exhaust fans and two 140mm intake fans, and yet I don't like the numbers. You might have been better off with three 120mm fans for the intake, and if it's possible even add bottom intake fan or fans. As it is most of the air will go the path of least resistance and move along the front potion of the case up to the top and top back exhausts. The air around the graphics card will have relatively little movement and recirculate a lot through the graphics card HSF. Just having a lot of air moving through a case doesn't mean it's going to be great at cooling all the components. Where the airstreams are determines how much good they do. one possible radical option would be to reverse the fans in the front, and if using only two fans there then close off the open area below them. Remove or reverse the top back fan, it would need testing to see which option works best. The result would be a negative pressure case where air would enter through any bottom intake and the perforations in the expansion area below the graphics card. This way you disrupts the pocket of captured air below the graphics card and provide fresh air into the area. It's not a certain fix, but it is a possibility. And it carries the typical problems you get with a negative air pressure build such as dust buildup around every whole in the case where air can be sucked in. It could also be possible to construct an airduct from a front fan to blow air into the area below the graphics card. But that takes some construction and people would probably complain about it being ugly. Then there's the possibility of just adding a free mounted fan forcing air to circulate below the graphics card. Also not a guaranteed solution, and people will think it looks strange and / or is ugly. Darn, things like this was so much easier back when we didn't treat our computers like aquariums and tried to show their innards off... Whatever the case you need to get some outside air into that air pocket.

For a 3080 thats cheaper and smaller like that, 80C on core temp is pretty expected. The undervolting makes sense cuz they are similar to AMD in that regard now somehow, where with Ampere the current is able to increase so wattage limit is lifted AKA higher boost with similar or slightly lower temps. But I mean, thats why other 3080s are like vehicle engine blocks in cooler weight lol

I don't know if you're aware Dawid, but most motherboard can regulate fan speed without pwm, just net to set it to DC mode in BIOS, and then you can adjust the curve, which will regulate the voltage on the fan based on temps (like pwm but not pwm). That's what I used to do. Cheers

    8 dagen geleden

You can controll the speed of 3 pin fans. You have to make a few adjustments in the bios for this: on the fan header, set it to voltage controlled or similar. My msi b360 gaming plus has this setting pretty easy reachable, my asrock x570 phantombgaming 4 not so obvious, but its findable. You have to plug the fans into the motherboard tho. The difference between voltage controlled fans and pwm fans is that the board provides the pwm signal on the Vcc of the fan (high side switching), while with 4 pin fans the controller inside the fan does apply a low side switching pwm signal to the fan motor itself. We cant use low side switching for 3 pin fans, because the controller has to pull the tacho pin low, what cant be done when theres no ground connection and as result we would get messy rpm readings, if theres any tacho signal from the fan.

My personal config is pretty close to yours Dawid (R3900X 32GB3600 Gigabyte3080) but in a Purebase500 (white!) case. I've tried as well to get better temp and put a 280mm Eisbaer AIO, which is very good (better quality than most others, and replaceable/upgradable parts, max CPU temp 60c ingame, 70c after 30min+ stress) but had to put the radiator on the front (the case only allows 240mm on top). My Eagle3080 temp isn't bad on the GPU (max 70, after a tad undervolting to 0.86V) , only vram temps are crap (bc no thermal paste on back chips, think I'll fix that). Also added a couple Purewings fans to get some airflow like you did ! Whatever, all of this didn't change much to GPU Temps, which rely mostly on GPU fans ..

The bequiet fans, did they not include the plastic push pins for mounting? Because that’s what makes them really quiet in my build, vs the Noctuas, that have to be screwed down and thus generate a resonating noise. Also, the corners on the bequiet fans have two ways of fitting them, determining the fan clearance. If you set them up to have little clearance, they can generate a buzzing noise at certain rpms. In all, I found the bequiets quieter and ditched my Noctuas.

Hi Dawid, I have the EVGA RTX 3070 and haven’t experienced any crazy temps. Overall they are actually really good and It’s rare I see temps above 60c, even after long hours of use. I’ve heard they use the same cooler for all 30 series cards so maybe it’s just issue with the higher end cards? For anyone considering EVGA for a 3070 I’d recommend! Maybe hold off on EVGA for 3080 and especially 3090.
