God I HATE that people yarn bomb trees. Imagine all that yarn after a few rains, sodden and going moldy and giving the tree rot through its bark. Think things through!

Dear QI admins, would you please update these lovely videos with "auto generated subtitles" option? I know it is not always accurate but it can be quite useful for foreigners. It would be nice to catch more than 50% of the things Johnny Vegas says for instance, but hey.

Sue Perkins is correct that you can st'ab a person with a knitting-nee'dle, AND you can extract their brains through their nose using a crochet-hook (isn't that what Egyptians did as part of mummifying a body?). But I am learning a form of martial-arts where, upon being att'acked by a foe, I rapidly knit a close-fitting sack that fits tightly around their entire body, enclosing them in it, immobilizing them. I defeated Spiderman in the last Superpowers Contest, because as he shot spider-silk towards me to ensnare me, I just wrapped the hurled spider-silk up on my knitting-needles and went to work and I soon had him in a cocoon.

@Topher The11th it always becomes very awkward when I have to explain to them why I folded them up in my laundry afterwards. However, getting them into my clothes in the first place is a whole other matter. YES, SOCKS _ARE_ THE WORST! Honestly, I think I might need to switch over to Shoe-Jitzu which is a lot cleaner for everybody involved.

@Newgate - Zero Hour Don't you hate it when pick up dropped-off laundry from a laundromat/dry-cleaner's and when you get home and reach in for a folded shirt or trousers and unfold them you find that people are WEARING them? Socks are the worst. Unballing a ball-rolled pair of socks and finding a person in there. It never used to happen back in the day. Standards are falling.

I'm also learning an old style of laundry themed martial art, best described as folding clothes while people are still in them. Sounds like Spider Man never stood a chance!

You know what would be really extreme knitting? Something that fulfills all three of these criteria: 1) it fits, 2) it's functional, and 3) it looks somewhat attractive.

That tree wrapping shit kicked off in my area 2 years ago, then they ran out of thing to wrap. Last month I had the privileged of removing it all as the ants and mold was effecting the tree and it all looked shit. The same mob decorated Xmas baubles and red and white ribbons on everything, 3 months later I got to remove all the crap too.

Somehow I thought of a Silverback with a scarf. Then a knitted silverback. Then Holmes using his "irregulars" to covertly knit dastardly scoundrels like Moriarty into immobility, so they can be carted of to the clink.

I can't imagine that wrapping a tree trunk in yarn would be particularly good for the tree. I'd even go so far as to propose that that would make the tree rather unhappy. The bark would rot as the yarn would hold moisture. Lichens and mosses on the trunk would die. Birds would have a very hard time digging bugs out of trees. New branches and leaf sprouts would have a hard time pushing thru the yarn. Nice intentions and everything, but .... yeah. No.

It's only temporary. I agree with the problems of moisture, lichens and birds but trees and plants generate enormous forces as they grow. A bit of wool around the tree wouldn't come close to stopping the tree growing. Not exactly the same thing but mushrooms can force their way through asphalt.

In Demolition Man, Wesley Snipes plays a convict that spends decades frozen and was braintrained with gunplay, cyberterrorism-knowledge and all manner of supervillany skills. Stallone went through the same cryogenic detention and came out with a strange urge to knit sweaters because that future society thought it would make violent criminals less violent and have a less risk of repeat offending if they could vent their frustrations peacefully... The shenanigans that ensued when they met was heartwarming and cozy. I... I just was reminded of that film here somehow

oh sure, Yarn Bombing sounds all cute and cozy, until it happens to YOU. in the late 60's early 70's my mother would crochet, belts, scarves, hats, mittens, waistcoats, slippers, sweaters, my sister even got a granny square tunic dress. Are Humans Made To Wear Hand Knit Outer Wear? this human thinks, knot. (...___...)

Any joke is irritating if you hear it every day. The one on Jimmy Carr's channel was worse. I like that joke, but to hear it again and again is maddening. The QI one isn't a proper joke, so less irritating, but even more pointless.

People complained they were getting bored with it. I was bored, but I didn't complain. I just stopped the video, same effect as the current outro. And now I'm bored with the current outro, and again, I just stop the video. But I'd found a way to block the boxes that Sandy pointed at (because those boxes on other NLcameras videos blocked stuff at the end). So I didn't care, really. After you upload a video, NLcameras keeps track of how long people watched, and people like me probably got the channel's attention.

Love a good yarn bombing. When the road bridge over the local railway was being replaced a temporary pedestrian bridge made from scaffolding was installed. One day a knitted sleeve had been added to a single pole. Within a month the entire construction had become a mad staircase/scarf hybrid and looked wonderful! Though I suspect the builders who ultimately took down the bridge didn't love us.
