When he was behind Perez he wasn’t looking for an overtake, you can actually by the fact he moved out of the slipstream, halfway through the turn he suffered some understeer after which he ended up on the green and very slippery part next to the track, resulting in a spin. The fact Perez made a small mistake on the exit didn’t help either

Controversial take ; Max Verstappen may very well be the most talented driver on the grid. I used to dislike the guy, a lot in fact.. He was too hot headed, impatient, and often flat out dangerous. However over 2019, and 2020 season he's matured so much.. I've actually began rooting for him a little bit. Now another controversial one ; is the Redbull car truly the second fastest on the grid? Or is it Max's outright talent taking that car to the next level? When drivers such as Alex Albon, and Pierre Gasly cannot push the performance out of that car, but Max does so every weekend, I might not sound like a total lunatic after all.

I'd say he's in a bit of a similar situation as Alonso has been at Ferrari, a very quick driver, but the car is just nog good enough for the title. Fernando was also a great consistent podium scorer

In my opinion, I think he’s the best driver on track based solely on driving skills and not the cars they drive. And that’s coming from a Leclerc fanboy.

First off, I'm a fan of Verstappen. I like his driving, I like the fact that he's Dutch like me and that he inspired me to get back into following F1 after a decade of disinterest. I have to admit tho, his negative attitude outside the races is not inspiring at all. It's always criticism upon criticism. Towards himself, the team, the car, other drivers, it's extremely rare to hear him say something uplifting or positive in any interview. That combined with a recently developed defeatist attitude ("it doesn't matter what i do anyway") makes me not want to watch his interviews anymore. Quite a difference from Ricciardo for instance, who rarely gets a podium yet is always cheerful and enthousiastic towards journalists. Ricciardo actually acts like a man who's getting to live his dream, and I think that's great.

regardless, max needs to know that nobody remembers who came second or who came last. they only remember who came first. his decision on who to drive for seems that he does not know that. 2 things make a world champ. talent and who you drive for. even senna could not win a world championship for lotus and schummacher could not do it for jordan. so you have to choose your team with as much care as you approach your racing.. mercedes approached verstappen in mid 2017 remember so just keep that in mind when you say he is fighting with mercedes..

I feel like Verstappen is a great diver (second best to lewis) but the redbull car isn't as good as we might think it is. It's just that Verstappen is performing really well despite that. I also feel like the overall atmosphere or team culture in redbull is very competitive and pretty toxic. Which can't help. Max's present clearly is not what everyone was expecting. Since 2015 everyone was saying that "he was going to be multi world champion" from "next season on" but he is finishing his 6th season without actually being a title contender. This is the main reason why Honda is leaving. They don't see that Max has chances to be champion soon. Just to give you an example, Max has 9 wins in 6 seasons, Ronnie Peterson won 10 races in 6 seasons before his fatal accident so Max is not doing anything special or relevant. He has a fast car and drives it relatively well but has commited more significant errors than any other driver in the history of F1, including repeated accidents on his own, with everyone on the grid including his team mates. Just to give you a strong example, in 6 seasons Max has never finished a race in Monaco, Japan or Baku without crashing. His future is at risk because of the lack of relevant results.

To be fair, normally, if Max has a really good race he can finish 2nd, otherwise it is 3rd. Knowing you're doing a good job but never will be enough for a race win must be frustrating, equally on bad race days to still not have any competition from behind must be mind numbing as well.

Red Bull had to do several things right this year in order for Max to hear Valterri. Max was the better driver, Red Bull had slightly better pits and probably sightly better strategy, but the Red Bull car just wasn't reliable enough

Not specifically related to Max’s 2020 plight but I’m very curious; with Andy Green never having led the tech department at a frontrunning team (as far as I know) how do you think he will make the leap? Having resources, funding and facilities of a top team is 1 matter but then putting it into practice is another. Although the team's past as a high value "points-per-budget" scorer is well renowned.

Everyone questions did Ricciardo make the right decision to leave RB, well theres your answer there. nothing has changed and nothing will change next year and possibly beyond so you may as well try something different. RB have not had a title winning car since the V8s.

Of all the things that can go wrong, it's crazy how few times did Hamilton ever have a DNF for the past few years. Verstappen though how ever good he may be, has to over drive a car that's already on the edge in order to gain some ground, while Lewis is driving a car that's in its sweet spot, not too aggressive on any front.

I think if you ask Max, he’ll probably tell you he’s disappointed. He’s not in a team capable of fighting for a championship nowadays despite their hype and supposed promises. Whenever teams hype themselves up and bleat on about past glories, they’re bound to have a bad year somewhere down the line; I fear RBR are next in line for that. Max will need to leave RBR to win a championship. They’re not even remotely within touching distance and haven’t been for seven years.

This goes back to 2013; Mercedes switched focus to 2014 while RBR decided to push on with their 2013 car. They've been on the back foot ever since.

Its crazy how quick them 3 just check out from the rest! At the start of the race after about 5 laps Lewis, VB & Max are like 10 seconds clear of 4th! They just race between themselves! This is why RB need a 2nd driver who can keep up with Max as then it gives them a strategy to go for whereas with just Max, Mercedes just cover them off quite easily!

From f1 2019/20 game I found why verstappen is so frustrated on slow runners In front of him. That fu.kin irritating and frustrating..

The Benetton drivers had a bit of that in 1992 as Schumacher/Brundle shared the podium with the two Williams on several occasions, ok nowhere near the same league as this but in a period of car unreliability and less races for almost a third of the races to be the two Williams and a Benetton on the podium was a bit like that.... maybe?

I think its out of debate how talented max is and the potential thats underneath. I feel that the politics behind Max verstappen, which is Jos Verstappen, has put max and RB into a difficult corner. By cornering RB into a deal and building a car and team around him has closed some doors and opportunities for him at merc, ferrari or maybe even AMR. RB ofc wanted a driver like Max and agreed into doing this, but it resulted into some unforseen issues, like losing a great driver like Daniel Advocado, a car which only max can drive, 1 car points finishes, going through potential drivers like disposable batteries etc. And dont forget, now Honda is gonna pull out which leaves them which some huge decisions.
