What about making a calendar based on the Younger Dryas. The Younger Dryas is when the human population bottle necked killing people north of Sub-Saharan Africa. That is proven by genetic modeling from DNA samples. There is also proof because that caused the last major ice age. And may have inspired farming in the Natufian Archeology Culture.

I have researched this. The original idea behind the calendar was that it started with the beginning of the Holocene, our current era. So H.E. can stand for Holocene Era, or Human Era. Adding 10,000 years to the calendar may seem arbitrary, but I believe it works. It does not really change the last 2020 years. It does not really require us to change our birth years. Instead of the United States being created in 1776, it would be 11,776. It would be inclusive of all civilizations. The Western, or Christian calendar is wrong. Jesus was not born in 1 AD (CE) or even 1 BC (BCE). The current evidence shows he most likely was born between 6 BC and 4 BC. The idea for the Holocene Calendar was proposed before new technology and information became available. Ice core samples have been used to place the beginning of the Holocene 11,700 years BP, Before Present, which is a set date of 1950. So the Holocene started around 9,750 BC. So it is a little off, but there are other factors to take into consideration. The oldest "known" proto-city, Jericho, was permanently inhabited probably no early than 9500 BC. And this is the earliest proto-city found, others came much later. The evidence for the Neolithic Revolution, true agriculture did not begin until after 10,000 BC. The same with domestication of animals, except for dogs. There is some scholars that believe that domestication of rice and the pig were earlier than 10,000 BC, but there is no physical evidence. It is hypothesized that it could have occurred earlier, but from what I have read the physical evidence for their domestication is after 10,000 BC. I feel that adding 10,000 years to the calendar would put it close to the beginning of the Holocene, before any true cities were formed, or even proto-cities, and before true agriculture began. I feel it gives us a little leeway if we find older evidence, but of course we could eventually find something older. It would, at least based on what we currently know, include all of human civilization, from farming and permanent settlements to today.

The only book that details the first humans is discarded by modern society who cannot stand to believe that a higher being created them. That is the only evidence we will ever get as to our beginning. If we were 5 million 12,000 years ago, then there was a time when there were 2. The rate of human population expansion can be calculated backwards and we will arrive at the first humans who were not neanderthals or baboons because evolution does not allow it to happen in such a short space of time. Goodnight.

I love the continuity. This heals a major disruption and disconnection from our past. It is elegant in that it’s an easy change to make because it is easy to remember. At the same time, I disagree with it being called the human era. It dismissed the value of pre-agrarian hunter-gatherers and their deep connection to nature. It is arguable that what this ‘human era’ actually is, is a history of humanity’s steady disconnection from perceiving ourselves as part of the biosphere. It’s easy to destroy the life support systems of planet earth if almost 7 billion humans feel no connection to the living world. Calling this era the human era is actually another moment of ego if superiority which ranks our way of life as superior to indigenous cultures, which is dangerous because this kind of thinking has the potential to lead us to our own extinction.

I think this is a brilliant idea, as our current calendar unintentionally creates a divide between the two sides, with the BCE side made to seem irrelevant and inferior to the CE side. With an air of arrogance attached to the CE As someone who loves history, I've only recently grown to appreciate learning about our stone age ancestors as much as I appreciate learning about the other, more recent ages. I place a lot of the blame for this poor attitude on our current calendar influencing me as a child to think that everything prior to that era was unworthy of learning about Picturing humanity to be in the year 12,020 invokes a feeling of pride in me about our species and their accomplishments. It doesn't downplay any period of time, it recognises that each era was just as important as the last. Without them all we wouldn't be where we're are today I don't know what the political channels would be to have this calendar become the norm, but let's do it
