Dissimilar metals that come in contact with each other tend to corrode once electrically charged an d grounded. The aluminum at the contact points will a totally dissolve and is almost undetectable. unless there is some sort of barrier in place rubber seal etc...Be careful

you spend so much time cutting out that piece when you could have just got a square cardboard piece easily trace instead of cutting out the whole thing. it would have only been 2-3 min instead of cutting it out of the whole car.

That frame is dangerously scary. You need to take a minute to reflect. This is something that could kill you or save your life and you are building it to possibly kill you. To start the but welds are not safe. The different size tubing used on the frame caused yet another weak point. Ending the tube for a bend is yet another weak point I’m just saying use this frame as a template to build a new one. It is a cool idea but not safe at all. You seem to be making this frame build more difficult then it needs to be. These builds are on you tube. You need to take a minute to watch a few. This is not going to be a road worthy car.

I wonder how much this Mustang build would cost if I had arranged for vTuned to do it for me. First there’s the cost of two wrecks and an ancient 66 Mustang. Then there’s the cost of the fiberglass body shell, the metal used prolifically. Then there’s vTune himself. What would his talent cost per hour? How many hours will it take? There’s the cost of using the shop itself for storage and the hourly cost of the frame machine. The car is still half built and painting won’t be cheap. A minimum of three coats of primer, three coats of color, and three of clear, not to mention the sand paper and cost of a paint booth. I bet it would be cheaper to buy a new Mustang Shelby GT and safer too. vTuned will end up with a pretty, but clunky, heavy, Mustang-looking jalopy.

Hey vtuned, while you have taken the side body parts off of the frame why don’t you just cut the frame up and turn it into a nice trailer for a lawnmower or something. Because this frame build is just pure junk. It is going to fall apart so fast. I don’t mean to be hurtful but I’m just telling the truth. Just stick to fixing wrecks and stop building cars from scratch because it’s not worth it. That’s why the big vehicle manufacturers spend millions developing them. Oh and paint the trailer green just for the hell of it. Later Lad!!

I'm sorry but that frame looks awful Also, cutting out the old one frame, it most likely warpred and/or tweaked. And going from 2x4 to 2x3 is going to cause structural weak points in the way you joined them together (end to end instead of perpendicular) ! I seriously think you should again scrap your work and redo it, properly.

I'm no engineer but, reading the comments, the majority seem to agree with my thoughts. I thought that butt-welding framerails looked kinda sketchy and more than a wee bit intidy. If I might make a suggestion vTuned: keep going with all the jointed stuff, until you get 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 in the right place. Then, use all these odd bits of tube as a template to make the frame out of as few pieces as possible. You shouldn't even need the body on the car at that stage, as you'll know that it all fits. I get the impression you're kinda sick of the sight of the Mustang and I don't blame you. 𝑯𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆? Maybe start by reading through all the comments, from the very start of the project. There's some rubbish in there but some good advice too, as you've seen already. Then have a look at some of the YT builds that folks have suggested/recommended. You don't 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 copy anyone but you'll get loads of ideas and see if their worked out. I'm not knocking you vTuned, not one bit, but I do think you could use some advice.😁 Cheers for now, Dougie.

To these people complaining about how weak the frame is i'll say this the original mustang frame was by no means built as strong or as involved as this man is building his, its actually going to be much heavier because he's boxing everything up plus adding a roll cage,i'm actually glad that he's going to add more power to that coyote engine cause he's going to need it,this ain't going to be the typical lightweight mustang heck it might even hook better from a dig.

    • Luke Barnes

The original Mustang may have been weak but it also didn't have anything like the power of the Coyote engine thats going in this. He also intends to twin turbocharge it. Although I must admit I'm almost positive it won't make it anywhere near to being roadworthy so I suppose it's a moot point.

I am so glad that I will never be a passenger in that 'thing'. It is a butt-welded death trap. If you don't kill yourself, I bet innocent parties will end up hurt and maimed when this fails when you are showing off out on the road. You need to step back, admit to yourself that you do not have a clue what you're doing, and either pay someone to do it properly or buy a properly engineered frame for you to use. I fear that your frame has zero structural integrity and will shimmy itself apart in a few miles. I have no idea how road certification works over there, but if that passes inspection and allowed on the road, ask the guy doing it to try again but with his eyes open. No way anyone awake could deem that to be safe. I can't keep away from this build. Not because it is good, but because it is bad. Please stop and wait until your skill matches your optimism, or get a frame done professionally. And, FFS use safety gear. You will not be able to drive anything when you burn your eyes out and steering with stumps where your fingers used to be will be quite difficult I expect.

This is an excellent effort on your part. I do see some areas of concern. Frame weight, impact zones, firewall rigidity, and using dissimilar metals between the floor and frame. The amount of steel box can be literally cut in half with formed sheet steel. The weight savings would make a steel floor a better choice for rigidity, weight, and corrosion. Finally forming the firewall with bead rollers, etc will add a lot of structure to the build and stiffen the pedal points. I’ve done several ground up Jeep frames. The amount of steel used is appropriate for a rock crawler, too much weight for a greasy fast Mustang

For the seat mounting I would say 2.5mm thick 25mm square tube should be good enough as here in Oz it's what the regulations say to use for making seat frames. The holes for the seat mounting bolts will need crush tubes welded into the square tube sections though 😉

Hello Vtuned, Everyone keeps calling it a dangerous build, I don't have alot of chassis fab knowledge, but maybe you should really change the way you build the car. Probably you should start planning the chassis in CAD or pay someone to take measurements and do it, then you just cut pieces and connect it once for good, so you don't have to work alongside rough measurements. All the problems you've encountered that youre triying to solve come from poor planning. Please do it right and shock everyone, because even if it could be save, incase it isn't you might not be able to learn from that mistake.

Vtune, now that you gained the experience on your 1.3 frame edition, it’s time to start from scratch on 2.0. You should of made a jig from s550 mustang on mounting suspension points and transfer it to the old one and build tubular frame around it. Current frame looks little tight in the tunnel for exhaust. Love the build, good job.
