I wonder if they could reduce some of the waste by having the PCI card have a replaceable GPU similar to how the CPU can be replaced on the motherboard. Potentially this chassis could last a few generations of GPU cycles before being replaced. This of course assumes they could engineer something that didn't need the socket to change often. It would require some planning ahead, as there would need to be enough pins etc for various configurations. I imagine this would reduce the frequency of waste for home and hobby uses. Of course, the biggest offenders are probably big data centers and such though.

It ships with an 8-processor module, with microcode that will only access 2 or 4 processors. Purchase a processor upgrade for $$$$$, a hardware tech comes out with a box to upgrade the hardware, removes the cover, sends everyone out of the room, uploads the new microcode to use the other processors, puts the cover back on, and carries the box out again. There's going to be a lot more people interested in hacking a GPU driver today than were going to fiddle with a $400k box back then.

GPUs are only good for alt-coins. No GPU can produce ANY returns, mining bitcoins or litecoins or any other top coin. They ALL use dedicated hardware that hashes more than 1000x faster than any GPU with 1/1000th the power and 1/1000th the cost. The issue is, the parts they are crippling are ALSO used for gaming, thus, any game that uses that code will be 50% slower when accessing memory. The other issue is that there is other "code" which can "assist" in hashing, besides the raw, blunt, code they use. Some coins don't even use that specific code to "hash". Some use memory-space-allocation, some use simple "math", some use GPS info, some use hard-drive-allocation-space... They, literally, have no clue who the market is actually for, if they think that people are still using these cards for "hashing with bitcoin algorithms". How do I know this... The last "Dedicated miner" that I purchased, years ago, was a 1.2 T-hash ASIC miner, for $6000 (Now a paper-weight, because it is "slow", and that was 1000x faster than the 0.1 K-hash power of a Titan-X.) It would cost you billions of dollars to make hundreds of dollars, using a GPU for mining. Windows treats all GPUs as one card now, with the latest WDM drivers, from a year ago. Drivers that the NVIDIA drivers operate through, in windows, unless you are in TCC hardware access mode. I have two Titan-V cards with 12GB each and two Titan-XP-ME cards with 12GB each, my total "shared memory" for GPUs is 31.9GB and each card, (Not in SLI or any other cross-linking), is available as 12GB each, individually. (Some memory is "dedicated" to the non-shared space in each card, which is why TCC mode is used, to stop windows WDM drivers from using those cards "shared memory space". (Like when I do rendering, I need all memory in each card, not shared memory across all cards.)

(According to invoice 3060 was sold on Feb 21) Now I understand why I don’t see neither 3060, nor 3080/3090 (3070 is overpriced so no one wants to buy it). Only overpriced RX6000 series and NVIDIA’s GPU 3070, GTX 2000 and 1000 series. I think it’s time for Nvidia to close all THESE holes and turn to PC users.

Im kinda sick of companies always favoring the short term gains. Gamers are what made Nvidia what it is today and by them not throwing us a bone in these times just makes it easier for consumers to buy products elsewhere the next time. It won't happen but imagine if next generation all gamers boycotted Nvidia because of the shit they pulled here. Good bye company. It's hard to measure how many future customers and sales they lost to AMD for example because of this shit and it's real easy to measure immediate sales so i get why these things happen. But it's about time companies understood that sticking to your core customer base that were here before the cryptominers and scalpers and will be here after they leave is worth it in the long term. As for me ill still prioritise price and performance over a companies reputation but if ever cards from two manufacturers are about the same in those aspects then i will pick the one that tried to deal with cryptominers and scalpers.
