The one thing I was really disappointed after seeing the specs was the fuel tank size, only 50L of fuel. Shockingly low. Do we want Chris Harris to complain that this car will not do that many laps at all compared to a GT3, that has 130L of fuel? Heck, even F1 cars carry that much. Gordon, at least give us 100L in the tank!

I think Gordon got LMDh and LMH swapped and I cant blame him. The LMDh are the new gen DPi which are based on the new LMP2 chassis, they can race in IMSA and also WEC. LMH on the other hand is from the WEC and the regs state that you can basically create your own car. Free choise of engine, bodywork, almost everything. The only thing you need is a 3:1 downforce drag i believe and max engine power of 650 hp. This car has 711 so you would only need to downtune it a bit and a min weight of 1040 kg, now this is where the issue is but they can put the extra ballast wherever they want. So technically the LMH hasnt changed at all and they could do it just fine. This being said the GT1 club concept seems good as well because there is the possibility of other hypercars. Like the Mercedes AMG, McLaren Senna GTR, Pagani Zonda R, Pagani Huayra BC, Ferrari FXXK Evo, etc.

Some of the LMH regs have changed though, as the road-based segment (which was going to be balanced with the 'open formula/prototype' cars was dropped, and (effectively) replaced with LMDh. Only Aston were committed to the road-based LMH 'hypercar' approach, and got the engine regs changed to suit them, then pulled out; so the whole thing was a mess and thus the ACO - with known support for LMDh from VAG, Acura and GM, went that way; otherwise they were looking at grids in LMH of Toyota vs Glickenhaus for 2 years...until Peugeot shows up.

Also as he mentioned, it needs to be drive-able for amateur drivers. With the acceleration this thing will generate plus 1500kg of downforce, a manual H pattern gearbox would probably be a bit much.

Yes it's a Murray car, yes it have got a lot of clever, well designed technical aspects and a complete package makes the car, have got a lot of things speaking for it for those who can shell out that kind of $ on a collectors super car. But imho fact remain, times are very different form back in the day of McLaren F1 and things like it, today you can have a 765LT for peanuts when compared to these ultra expensive objects, a brute of car for that money. For a bit more still you can have a SF90, for a lot more you give Christina Koenigsegg a call and get something that imho is also top of the line when it comes to well through trough, properly designed and engineered, high quality and amazing! Point is today is different and a lot to choose from, not to speak about power levels and performance you can have today compared to the times of the F1. Some rich people, rich collectors will get one no doubt, will not be heard to sell out but I am sorry to say I highly doubt we talk the best ever in the history books, also today lots of super cars con be put to shame by a stupid Tesla and that does not help I suppose?

Funny that Gordon Murray has had a Mk1 Escort built and clearly enthuses over cheap and simple RWD cars...so why doesn't he design one for a major (preferably Japanese) manufacturer to build? They'd sell like hot cakes. If Mazda made a RWD version of a small tin-top car, under a ton, with a 2.0 16v engine driving the Rear wheels, absolute bare-bones basic interior, no abs, no airbags, they would sell tens of thousands of them worldwide.

Not really; because they would be illegal in most places to manufacture for sale on that scale. You are allowed to sell a few cars here & there which don't meet the legal requirements (low volume manufacturers); but in the US alone the car has to have minimum height sides, minimum height lights, set lighting positions, requires airbags, requires a reversing camera, requires ABS; then you need EU pedestrian safety crumple zones, and the US/EU crash safety requirements. The regs just kill any potential for a car like that to be sold in the thousands, let alone tens of. It's sad.

Halo cars are all very well, I just wish the energy and undoubted expertise was put into something more accessible, we all known none of these cars will ever be used in anger, they’ll sit in collections appreciating in value which kind of renders all the effort pointless. Sadly this car will not be driven by anyone other than ragster journos at its launch - most of the rest will live in copious CCTV /20 degree maintained garages going up £££ a day in value ! Such is life... McLaren and Aston Martin and even Ferrari would die for this - only Murray and Zonda are in this league as Hyper-boutique-cars now commodities for arriviste wealth rather than car fans.. The only car I'm as excited as this is an 991 r getting re-done into a sub 900kg car with literal state of the art tech and materials. Dude will have the first beryllium brake calipers, pagid is so excited (there will be a new material on carbon discs), they will make a pad just for that new disc and a FUCKING TITANIUM pad plate. I thought it was a mistake when he said 850 kilos. I had to google it to make sure. That is only 290-300 more kilos than a _BAC Mono_ ffs. The Senna GTR, which went out of its way to shed weight and be driver focused, is still 300 kilos heavier than the T50s. The Vulcan AMR Pro is 500 kilos heavier. The FXX K is similar. The P1 GTR is a full 600 kilos heavier. It's an insane weight, I can't think of a competitor that comes close, anywhere near close. The Sesto Elemento perhaps, but that's still another 150 kilos heavier, almost 1000 kilos. And that was basically built as a showcase for how much weight carbon fibre sheds. I don't quite understand how they pulled it off; and the mad thing is it's just tossed away as another crazy figure among many. I think GM is being a teeny bit tricksy when he says he doesn't care about the numbers :)

Unfortunately it's unlikely we'll ever get to see and hear one of these being thrashed around a track. At the price, it's simply not worth the risk. I hope there are one or two owners who will use it to it's full potential, but it's likely the vast majority of these cars will end up in collections and very rarely driven.

If I could one each of Gordon Murray's road cars, I'd be a happy enthusiast. So an F1, a Rocket, and a T50. All are honestly best used as track cars, even in standard trim. If I had to pick just one, I'd take the Rocket. At something like $250,000, last time I heard a number, it's by far the most affordable. But it is also the purest example of Gordon Murray's fundamental philosophy. IMO, of course. Murray is always a great interview; relaxed, engaged, and unpretentious. Thanks, Harry.

Does anyone know how many gears the T50s has? Is it just an automated version of the 6 speed manual variant? It really should have 8 to keep that V12 screaming given its displacement, weight of car and the fact there's no variable cam timing.

I actually like the way this looks far better than the stock one, as going subdued with that bottle rocket stuffed up its a........backside was never going to work when it comes to the word subtle, but then again, If I could I'd be the kind of guy who would ride up to the factory in a testarossa with a left wing mirror just to irk him abit. as it was the F40 that was ferrari's answer to the countach, not the testarossa, and he missed the point completely of it by laying into it like he did, and its always irked me that he never got that, and yet there he is using the left wing mirror trick on the T50.S here on both sides. still though I gotta respect that it isnt an all out top speed car with no feel besides the holy **** I'm going too fast and I'm gonna crash one, and that its got a point and a purpose to it kinda like how buggati was made back in the day, with light and quickness being their primary characteristics above all else, and if you couldnt drive it it was your problem not its. as I just look at the modern ones, and their keys and go, why are you paying 3.4 million dollars for a 4 wheel drive 4 X 4 X 4 turbocharged volkswaggen that can do 250 mph when most roads arent even long enough to reach a fraction of that no matter how quickly it launches.

@Allen Saunders looks are subjective. Some prefer a classier look like a 1961 Jaguar E type or Ferrari 250 GTO, some like those edgy ones like the Countach or Vector, or a riced Supra or Silvia, an ultra luxurious RR Phantom or Bentayga maybe? I just love the looks of a "sports prototype" those out of this world engineering bit with no limitation (almost).
