There are only 2 reasons to watch ANY sport 1) You're trying to learn the techniques used. 2) You're trying to construct new techniques that will be effective against the specific person you're watching (most likely because you plan to compete against them at some point). For these reasons, almost every Olympic event should be scrapped. We know the most efficient ways to sprint/jog/throw/jump/vault/lift/etc. Watching them is no more interesting than watching a cog spinning. Yeah, every so often there might be a slight improvement in technology that lets the cog spin a bit more efficiently, but it's still just a cog spinning. Unless something comes along to fundamentally change the way the event is performed (like the Fosbury Flop did), it's just not worth running the event again.
