I don't agree that our use cases are much more demanding now than they were 5 years ago. We still mostly watch videos, text, use social networks and messaging apps. The hardest "task" for the average consumer is processing Instagram, Snapchat and other apps video and photo filters. CPU improvements in our phones are becoming irrelevant because we are still limited to 5-7 inches displays and can't truly multitask or do "serious work" such as compiling code, expert videos, open 20+ tabs in the browser and easily manage them etc.

I think alot of people are expecting a massive speed upgrade, and better battery etc with the 888 release, but its not meant to be a significant raw power upgrade like usual, it's only coming in around 2-5% better than the 865, in raw power, people need to lower their expectations, its only an adreno 660, its not a major upgrade with a new adreno series. What it does offer, is new camera tech, VRS variable rate shading, and features that have never been seen on a mobile SOC yet. its a feature rich SOC upgrade, rather than raw power.

I love linus but he's out of touch sometimes with devices that aren't super high end. He comes off arrogant the way he comments on things that aren't the absolute best quality. From what i understand now is that whichever phone people now buy you are going to gwt a good device no matter what its little things like camera or battery life that makes a difference because most phone have the same chip so it is going to be smooth no matter what and both camera and battery is again pretty siilar to each other. Honestly it now only boils down to price, brand, ecosystem and software.
