just started following this but 1st off you need to vacuum and bleed with the heater on full hot setting no use bleeding the system and opening the valve to the empty heater matrix = lots of air .. just a thought but yes the coolant system includes the heater matrix. Good luck!

Did you pressure check the system? Is there a bleed valve on highest coolant hose or highest spot of engine? Crack it when you fill with water tighten it when water comes out run up to temp then slightly crack again any air will escape if water comes out your good to go. Good luck. Also jacking up isnt a great idea you need to fill the radiator this is the worst most waste of time that's good pipes are hard there pressurised leave it pressurised check dor leaks have you put coolant in it? Dont run on just distilled water bad idea. Use waterless coolant it will keep engine temp down.. use the system cleaner before you add waterless coolant you can reuse it it has rust inhibitors in it. Do yourself a favor and visually inspect the water pump impeller. The impeller can break from the shaft and cause similar symptoms. It happened often on e46 models. Your welcome!

It's a 3 cylinder lol somehow i figured that was the problem. I think since the test proves that why not start with that first? I would just do that test every time you buy a used car. It is simple and cheap and in the end lots of time and money could be saved. But that is just my opinion. ☺

When the head gasket goes out then you shut off the engine the cylinder fills up with antifreeze and causes a hyd lock. Any pressure pump should have told you when it losses pressure

Great to see that the BMW community isn’t all just tailgating the hell out of people in residential areas.

Just want to point out since I was at a BMW dealership that had a lemon i8 around 2014. If you keep having issues with overheating, its because of the hard coolant pipes. We had micro fractures on one of the bends on one pipe, the other was also incorrectly bent, and then we also had to deal with the new bleeding procedure which wasn't any good. BMW over complicated the procedure by integrating it into the on board DME. The hard pipes, you're better off just replacing with new or aftermarket/custom. Car got completely torn down trying to find what was wrong. At the end it was BMW's own fault. You might have issues once you start driving it. We vacuumed bled, DME bled, etc and still had it overheat after we started driving. It is a very well known issue with BMW technicians. The head gasket maybe being bad due to overheating almost for sure happened due to the hard pipes causing the heating issue. I replaced at least 2 head gaskets and one pump due to that happening.

ANTIFREEZE INFO Something to keep in mind for anyone new to working on cars its not just for “anti-freezing” it also helps with anti-overheating If your cooling system is filled with just water or mostly water it does not contain the correct heat transfer properties and the car will over heat even if there’s nothing wrong with the cooling system Use proper water/coolant ratio for you local temperature conditions

Also why are you just using water? Distilled or not bmws, cars are meant to be ran with specific coolants. Bmws especially need a specific coolant. It provides lubricant for different parts of the coolant system. Running the car with just water or the wrong coolant will start damaging essential parts

Stop buying head gasket sealer. That shit is garbage and only makes issues worse when you pour it in. Find the problem, fix the problem. No other way to do it

8:45 Lubing you hose fittings works but is not the best idea. Using a bit of liquid hand soap is better as the hose will slip on the same but it will break down and keep the grip better.

... Like I guessed in an earlier video, blown head gasket. This should have been the first test. The dealer had it right, replace the engine. Easier for him than a headgasket plus whatever else, repair. Putting lubricants on plastics is risky, polycarbonate is super sensitive to hydrocarbons. Use soap, dish washing detergent or silicone if you must.

There is a procedure on BMWs to tell the car software to bleed the coolant system for high and low temperature circuit, two separate procedure's, if you have the BMW software on your computer for the instructions it should be on there, it's something like ignition on, low beam lights on, hazard warning lights, temperature on maximum, fan speed on lowest, foot on the brake and press the accelerator for 15 seconds and it should start the bleeding process, no 100% but I think that's close, you can see/hear the system bleed itself
